Oak Ridge CrossGate Church Closes

The congregation of the Oak Ridge CrossGate church held their closing service yesterday, January 29. The church was known for most of its life as the Guilford Wesleyan Church and had been located on West Market Street in Greensboro. It was received into the conference in the 1952-53 conference year. Fred Hill was the first pastor. James Smith pastored the church for thirty years, from the mid-1950’s to the mid-1980’s.

Pastor Kelly Goudy preached the closing sermon and District Superintendent Dan LeRoy led the ritual of closing. The two remaining charter members, Parkes and Jewell Richey, received recognition from the pastor for their years of faithful service to the church.
By action of the DBA, the church property will be assigned to the District E&CG Board. Preliminary plans are underway for a north Greensboro church plant at some point in the future.
